I loved this book. It's impossible to decide whether Blackhouse or Chessmen was better. I preferred the characters in this one, especially Whistler and his daughter - although how dare Peter May call Goth ugly? How dare he!?!
A clever (albeit it at time convoluted) mystery with the same dual timeline as the previous books in the trilogy, but the change overs were smoother and made more sense in Chessmen.
I'm sad the trilogy has ended. I'll miss the bleak and rugged Hebridean landscape. At least I have more of May's books in my TBR pile.
